How To Measure
How to Measure for Blinds
Basic Guidelines
Accurate measurements are essential. The numbers you provide are used first to price the blind, and then to fabricate it to the specified size. Follow these basic guidelines to ensure a smooth and accurate installation:
- Always use a steel tape measure, preferably 3/4" to 1" wide.
- Measure width first, then height.
- Measure each window separately, even if they appear to be the same size.
- Survey the window area carefully and make additional measurements if necessary.
Inside Mount

- Width: Measure at the top, middle, and bottom of the opening. Write down the narrowest width. Round down to the nearest 1/8".
- Height: Measure at the left, center, and right. Use the longest height so the blind isn’t short.
Order sizes are listed as Width × Height (W × H). Example: 35 7/8" × 58 1/4".
Outside Mount

- Coverage: Choose the finished width and height you want the blind to cover.
- Add for light control: Add about 1½" on each side of the window (+3" total width) and about 1½" at the top and bottom if space allows.
- Final width: Measure where the blind edges should land and include your add-ons.
- Final height: Measure from the top where the headrail will mount down to the bottom of the coverage area.
- Mounting surface: Ensure a flat area at least 1¾" high for brackets/valance.
Outside mount sizes are the finished product size you order.
